Mrs. Willie Ruth Russ Miller was born on February 12, 1938 in Quincy, Florida to the late Samuel Russ
and Mattie Dasher. She married the love of her life, Mr. James Earl Miller, Sr. until his death on February
12, 2008.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was educated in the public schools of Gadsden County. She later
migrated to Tampa, Florida with her family and was there for over 50 years. She retired from the Tampa
General Hospital as a nurse’s assistant.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Progress Village until her return to Gadsden County in
2018. Upon her return, she became a member of St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church until her demise.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Earl Miller, Sr., her children, James Earl
Miller, Jr. and Mattie Pearl Green, her parents, Samuel Russ and Mattie Dasher, her father and mother-in-
law, Mr. & Mrs. Jessie James Miller, Sr., her brothers, RJ Russ, Moses Russ, Sr., and Willie Lee Russ, Sr.
Mrs. Miller leaves to cherish her memories: a granddaughter, Shawanna Bryant of Tampa, FL, a devoted
niece and nephew, caretakers Alfred and Elizabeth Smith of Gretna, FL; four brothers-in-law, Walter Lee
Miller, Sr. and Douglas Miller (Tabitha) of Tampa, FL, Larry Miller (Bridgette) of Philadelphia, PA and
Joshua Williams of Gretna, FL; seven sisters-in-law, Lue Ethel Sutton Russ of Quincy, FL, Gladys Russ of
Hardaway, FL, Gloria Crews and Mattie King of Quincy, FL, Patricia Williams of Jacksonville, FL, Marie
Miller of Gretna, FL, and Noreen Miller of Tampa, FL; aunt-in-law, Queen Miller of Tampa, FL; caregiver,
Shawn Dixon; special friends and sisters-in-love, Gladys Russ, Lue Ethel Sutton Russ and Gussie
Haughbrook; special friend, Oscar Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who
loved her dearly.
