Mr. William Laster, Sr., 87, of Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully departed this earthly life on December 2, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Campbellton, Florida, to a loving family rooted in faith, service, and community.
William spent his formative years in Jackson County and later moved to Newark, New Jersey, where he built a meaningful life and career. He was educated locally and later became employed with Hillside Metal and the City of Newark, where he worked faithfully for many years until retirement.
A man of strong faith, William was a devoted member of Springfield A.M.E. Church in Gretna, Florida, where he worshipped and served on the Trustee Board.
William’s favorite pastimes included fishing, baseball, watching sports, and spending quality time with family and friends. He was a man who enjoyed simple pleasures and the peace and quiet of nature. He was known for his warm spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. He loved his family deeply, loved his fishing, and loved helping others—always offering support, encouragement, and a listening ear to anyone in need.
William leaves to cherish his memory; four sons: Ronald Keith Laster of Hackensack, NJ; Paul Gaynor (Vicar) of Clayton, NC; Samuel Gaynor of Newark,NJ and Tyrone Gaynor (Carol) of Loganville, GA.; Two daughters: Shari Lynn Morris (Ronald) of Tallahassee, FL; and Patricia Lawrence (Harry) of Roselle, NJ. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Springfield A.M.E. Church, Gretna, Florida. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A public viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Bradwell Mortuary.
