Sheryl Lynne Smith Anifowoshe

Sheryl Lynne Smith Anifowoshe, age 74, of Gretna, Florida, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in Tallahassee, Florida.

Born on June 17, 1951, Sheryl was a lifelong resident of Gadsden County whose life was marked by faith, service, compassion, and a commitment to excellence. She was the beloved daughter of the late John E. Smith, Sr. and Daisy L. Smith and was raised in a family that instilled strong values, perseverance, and love for community.

Sheryl received her early education in the Gadsden County School System and graduated from Carter-Parramore High School with the Class of 1969. Her pursuit of knowledge and professional growth led her to participate in The TYP Program at Yale University, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, in 1970. She later attended the Eli Whitney Regional Vocational-Technical School, where she completed nursing training and gained valuable hospital experience at Yale-New Haven Hospital in February 1974. Continuing her educational journey, she attended Albany Junior College, completing her studies in December 1985.

A dedicated healthcare professional, Sheryl devoted her career to nursing and caring for others. As a Registered Nurse, she faithfully served patients and families through her work at Gadsden Memorial Hospital in Quincy, Florida, and Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida. Her kindness, professionalism, and compassionate spirit touched countless lives throughout her years of service before her retirement.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sheryl enjoyed a full and vibrant life. She found joy in traveling, reading, sewing, quilting, and shopping. Whether creating beautiful handmade treasures, exploring new destinations, or sharing laughter and conversation with family and friends, she embraced life with grace and enthusiasm. Above all, she cherished her family and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Lesley D. Anifowoshe; son, David A. Anifowoshe; grandson, Jordan D. White; sisters, Edna Hussein-Forehand and Essie Smith-Jackson (Perry); brothers, John E. Smith, Jr. and Victor A. Smith (Albertine Renee'); sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith; nieces, Muna Hayes (Reginald), Jessica Smith, Victoria Ebanks (Carey), Xavia Christopher, Xylia Jackson, Xyann Jackson, and Xyara Jackson; nephews, Nuir Hussein (Anne), Frederick Hussein, Jason Smith (Wanda), Marcus Smith (Selina), and Perry Jackson, Jr.; and a host of beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, including Jason Smith, Jr., Justin Hayes, Braylon Hayes, Nia Hussein, Amir Hussein, Eugene Butler, Jr., Liam Smith, and Logan Ebanks, along with many other relatives and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the legacy of Sheryl Lynne Smith Anifowoshe lives on through the lives she touched, the family she loved, and the countless acts of kindness she extended throughout her life. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering devotion to others will be remembered always.
