Shelly Ann McClain James, 77, of Quincy, Florida, peacefully departed this life on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 8:15 p.m. in Quincy, Florida.
Born on March 17, 1949, in Coffee County, Alabama, Shelly was a woman of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She made her home in Quincy, Florida, where she touched countless lives through her compassion, generosity, and loving spirit.
A faithful member of Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, she found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Shelly received her education through the Gadsden County School System, graduating from Stevens School. She dedicated many years of service as a factory worker before retiring. She enjoyed walking, fishing, and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her nurturing nature, Shelly was often described as a surrogate mother and special friend to many. Her home and heart were always open, and her love extended far beyond her immediate family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Patrick M. James (Tequila) of Quincy, Florida; her loving daughter, Anissa James of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Judy McClain and Annie Doris McClain, both of Quincy, Florida; brothers, Wiley C. McClain of Gretna, Florida, and Billie Ray McClain of Quincy, Florida; granddaughters, Ariele Bronson, Makayla Prewitt, and Alona James, all of Quincy, Florida; along with three great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
