Sharon Washington Obituary

Sharon Denise Washington was born to Maudie Lee Green-Nealy and Alex Washington, Sr. on January 15, 1956, in Quincy, Florida. She was blessed to be raised by loving parents and Step-Father, Robert “Bobby” Nealy. Sharon accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. She joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and later moved her membership to New Life Ministries, Quincy, Florida where she was a devoted member and dutiful usher serving willingly in any capacity. She was also a member of Greenshade Chapter #17 Order of Eastern Star PHA. Sharon attended Gadsden County Public Schools and was a graduate of James A. Shanks High School Class of 1974. She maintained a strong affectionate bond with her classmates until her demise. After graduating from high school, she furthered her education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. When you met Sharon, she had a beautiful smile that radiated the love of Jesus Christ. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was befriended and loved by all who knew her. Employment opportunities were fulfilling to her and very beneficial to the State of Florida. She worked tirelessly for the Department of Economic Opportunity formerly known as Department of Labor and Agency Workforce Innovation for 35 years. After a brief retirement, she joyfully and graciously returned to work and offered her talents for 11 more years as one of the department’s most knowledgeable administrators. During her tenure, she earned exemplary accolades and awards. There she developed life long friendships. She also spent nearly 30 years as an employee of H&R Block where she gained a rapport with clients who insisted only she prepare their returns. Purposing in her heart to make a difference in the lives of others, she used her God given talents to enhance the business endeavors and operations of Lockwood Construction, LLC, New Steps Learning Academy and Investing In Our Youth, Inc. serving on the Board of Directors and in other capacities. Sharon was blessed with a precious daughter and talented grandson whom she instilled excellent Christian values and work ethics in them. They were the joys of her heart. Following in her footsteps, Shawanna and Jalan excelled academically, athletically, and as leaders in the community. She was most proud of all of their accomplishments. Her passion and love for sports included her enjoyment of all sports especially basketball, football, and baseball. She was an avid Rattler fan and was overjoyed when Jalan joined the FAMU Football Team.

On Saturday, August 7, 2021, Sharon peacefully transitioned to join her Savior in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her father: Alex Washington, Sr., step-father: Robert “Bobby” Nealy and brother: Kenneth Davis.

Treasuring her memories include her only child, a loving, devoted daughter: Shawanna L. Moye; her adorable, beloved grandson: Jalan S. Black; her caring, loving mother: Maudie Nealy of Quincy, Florida; brothers: Alphonso Green (Vivian) of Pasadena, Maryland, Harold Lockwood, Richard Lockwood (Tracy), Alex Washington, Jr. (Brenda), Gary Washington (Geraldine), Larry Washington (Doris), Samuel Washington, and Renard Nealy all of Quincy, Florida; sisters: Sheila Washington, Angela Washington, Patricia Beamon, Karen Washington all of Quincy, Florida; godson: Marki McClendon of Quincy, Florida; special niece and caregiver: Dineka Davis of Quincy, Florida; lifelong friends: Linda Cal Smith, Frances Harrell, Yvonne Murphy and Brenda Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, friends and the Show-Off family. Sharon’s servant leadership will always remain in the hearts and minds of those who had the blessing of knowing her. The immense love for family was evident by the loving acts of kindness shown to them. She exhibited a giving spirit to anyone she came in contact with. Sharon will be tremendously missed by her family and friends.
