Brother Lawrence Stephen Holder was born on October 1, 1946 to Gloria Holder in Orange, New Jersey. He departed this walk of life on Thursday, August 25, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida.
He was affectionately known as “Steve” and “Larry” and was an only child. He confessed the Lord as his personal Savior and served as trustee and usher at People Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. He later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and joined Greater Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Lawrence graduated from Orange High School in the Class of 1964. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam. He served as an Airborne Medic 3rd Platoon, Charlie Co., 1st BN, 12th Cavalry where he was affectionately called “Doc”. Lawrence was honorably discharge in October, 1966.
On November 7, 1994 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Sharon Lynette McMillan. Lawrence worked for many years in community relations. He was a firefighter for Engine #5 Company for 30 years where he retired as captain in 2004. He served his community in various capacities and earned several accolades as a member of the Fire Fighter League Advocation Minority Equality (F.L.A.M.E.); Military Order of the Purple Heart Recipient Medal; Basic Para Bridge Combat Medical Badge Purple Heart; Vietnam Service Medal National Defense Service Medal; Soldiers Medal; Silver Star Medal; May 1977 joined the Prince Hall Bethel Lodge #10 in Orange, New Jersey; Wishful Master Secretary; District Deputy Grand Master; District Lecturer for the 8th District; 33rd Degree Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Prince Hall Affiliated; and Past Patron of the Bethlehem Chapter #41 Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliated.
Cherishing the memories of Lawrence are: his wife, Sharon L. Holder of Quincy, FL; sons, Stephen Jemal Key (Shari) of Princeton, NJ, Alvin D. Isaac (Tynika) of Atlanta, GA, and Joseph Lemon (Lakia) of Irvington, NJ; daughter, Brigett M. Lemon of Lehigh Valley, PA; mother-in-love, Annette McMillan of Quincy, FL; brothers-in-law, Andra McMillan (Teresa) of Tallahassee, FL, Delmonta R. McMillan of Havana, FL; sisters-in-law, Glenda Ray (Reginald) and Teresa R. Atwater (Dewitt) both of Quincy, FL; grandchildren, Jevon, Jada, Jaylon, Asad, Joseph, Christian, Davian, Isaiah Sr. (Alexis), Ezekiah, Essence, Elijah, Kyaia, and Robert; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Jr. and Alani; a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
