Lavander “Eric” Barkley went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the age of 50.  Eric was born to Agnes Y. Green and the late Curtis Barkley Jr. on February 06, 1971 in Gadsden County.

Eric attended the public schools in Gadsden County and was a graduate of the James A. Shanks class of 1989 (Tigers). 

Eric worked with the Department of Corrections proudly serving over 16 years to the surrounding areas. His current employment was at the City of Quincy as a maintenance worker where he enjoyed his work and loved his co-workers. 

Eric was “short in statue but mighty in spirit & in deeds”.  He was a family man who always looked forward to spending time with his family.  He was a great provider and a friend indeed.  There was nothing too hard or difficult that he would not do for his family and friends.  

More importantly, Eric accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of the New Israel Church of Jesus Christ where he enjoyed singing his favorite song “Fix It Jesus”, praying and encouraging the saints of God. Eric was richly loved by his Church family and will be deeply missed.

Eric never met a stranger and touched the lives of all who met his kindness and joy. He saw life as full of wonder and magic.  He was always a positive man and loved everyone.  

He will always be remembered…. 

Eric’s memories will forever be cherished by his devoted wife Linda Barkley of 26 years, Eric is also survived by his children Erica Barkley (Tallahassee), Sekedra Monroe (Antwoine) (Quincy) and Chelsea Moore (Tallahassee), four beautiful grandchildren Ja’Kalyn Swatts, Kylie Hopkins, Xavier T. McMillion and Peyton Doyle, his loving motherAgnes Y. Green (Quincy); his mother in law Lillie Mae Smith (Marcus); brothers Curtis Young (Quincy), Vernon Green  (Serita) and Anthony Barkley (Tallahassee), Morris Green (Edifield, SC); and sisters Tonya Green (Midway),Mechelle Barkley, Jacqueline Barkley and Bonita BarkleyGainesville, FL); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other love ones.
