Deacon Elemur James Murray was born January 23, 1938 in Greensboro, Florida. He was one of ten children and the oldestson born to the late Joseph Willie Lee Murray and Roseanna Murray. Early in his life, Elemur joined the Pine Bloom Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, Florida. Elemurloved God throughout his life, and he remained committed and steadfast to his Christian faith and his church family. Elemurcontinued his Christian fellowship as a member for more than 55years at the Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri where he served on the usher board, then and Deacon and later Senior Deacon. Family and friends knew himas a loving and compassionate person who loved helping and serving others. Deacon Elemur Murray spent many years teaching and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ Sunday School and at Baptist Training Union (BTU). He spent many hours driving neighbors, friends and the elderly to and from church. Elemur love helping the youth in the community where often help neighborhood children fix their bicycles and would sometime buy them new bicycles. He became known in the neighborhood by the young kids as the Bicycle Man. One of his joys in life was bowling where he spent much time and was a winning bowler on his senior bowling team.
Elemur grew up in Greensboro, Florida where she attended Salem Elementary School in Greensboro and Graduated from Carter Parramore High School in Quincy, Florida. After high school, he worked at the Chattohoochee Hospital. As a loving son and brother, Elemur was instrumental in helping his mother raise his younger siblings after the unfortunate accidental deathof his father Joseph at a young age. Elemur later met and married the love of his life, Ms. Dorothy Lee Baker of Snead, Florida. From their union, they have two wonderful children Stephanie and Errol.
On September 19, 2021, Elemur transitioned to a much better place, his heavenly home. His life now affirms the words of Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord”.
Elemur leaves many who will cherish his memories: his loving wife Dorothy Lee Baker Murray; wonderful daughter Stephanie D. M. Walker (Don) of Atlanta; loyal son Errol J. Murray of St.Louis ; His awesome grandchildren Jozeif, Jada, Iceis, Sommer, and Gage; his caring siblings include: William Murray (Carol), and Lavern Moore, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Gary Murray of Quincy, Florida, Linda Jackson of Greensboro, Florida, and Judge S. Charles Murray (Cie) of Atlanta, Georgia and her sister-in-law Eddie Mae Murray of Greensboro, Florida. His other In-Laws and caring siblings include: Annie J. Coy (Richard deceased) of AccoKeek, Maryland, Frank Baker II (Myrtice) of San Antonia, TX and Earl Baker (Joy) of Snead, Fla. He also leaves one surviving aunt, Lessie Jones of Chattahoochee, Florida, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family and friends.
Elemur was preceded in death by his brothers Timothy Murray, Louis Murray, Sr. and Franklin Murray; sister Barbara Murray, his sister-in -law, Dorothy and brother-in-laws, Robert Jackson, Sr. and Leonard Baker.
