Elayne Pittman Obituary

Elayne Jackson Pittman, born on February 23, 1955, in Chattahoochee, Florida, peacefully passed away on December 21, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished resident of Battle Creek, Michigan, for over 41 years.

Elayne was the beloved daughter of Elder Andrew Jackson and Evangelist Veola Little Jackson, both of whom preceded her in death. She shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Roswell Pittman. Their journey together began in Red Bank, New Jersey, where they built a loving home filled with warmth, faith, and joy.

She was a devoted mother to her son, Jakotis Pittman (Diana), and daughters, Daphion McGee, Montrella Jackson, Esq. (Henry Butts), and Selena McGee. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to Annessia, Benaiah, Avah, Kayliana, Romello, Leo Jr., Yakalayah, Yashar, Kirago, Kotis, and Laynie.

Elayne is also survived by her brothers, Darrell Jackson of Tallahassee, Florida, and Willie James Jackson of Chattahoochee, Florida. She was preceded in death by her sister, Theopha Ervin, and brother, Calvin Otis Jackson. She shared a deep bond with her nieces and nephews: Nichole, Elisha, Dariell, Marion, Tillina, Lacissa, Qwendora, Lester Jr., Terry, Sean, Danny, Marcus, Matt, Allester, Eddie, and Michael.

Growing up in Florida, Elayne’s childhood was filled with love, faith, and the embrace of her extended family. Surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, she developed a strong foundation of Christian values, laughter, and lifelong lessons.

From an early age, she discovered a passion for sewing, creating her own clothing with skill and creativity on her grandmother’s Singer machine. Her love for gardening also blossomed, earning her a reputation for having an enviable green thumb that brought beauty to every space she tended. Known for her impeccable sense of style, Elayne was always fashionable, with a wardrobe that reflected her vibrant and vivacious personality.

A lifelong learner with an enduring passion for personal growth, Elayne pursued higher education at institutions such as Panama City College in Florida and Kellogg Community College in Michigan. She also completed studies in interior design and real estate. Her career spanned over four decades, including time at Ralston Foods (20 years), Interbake Foods, and Tennaco Industries. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and dedicated herself to supporting their education and opportunities. She was a Cub Scout leader for several years and an emerging author of three children’s books.

Elayne will always be remembered for her generosity, kind spirit, and empathetic nature. Her candid "tell it like it is" attitude endeared her to those around her, while her vibrant personality brought warmth to every interaction. Whether she was laughing with family and friends or offering words of encouragement, her zest for life was unmistakable.

She found immense joy in gardening and traveling, always seeking to broaden her horizons. Her love for beauty and exploration was evident in all she did. She delighted in organizing cookouts with coworkers, creating meaningful moments of togetherness. Fondly called "Layne" by her work friends, she was also a dedicated volunteer at United Way, where her energy and positivity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Elayne’s memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. May her legacy of love and kindness bring comfort to all who mourn her passing while celebrating a life well-lived.
