Betty Jean Gause was born on August 20, 1955 to King Cyser (K.C.) Davis and Essie May (Taylor) Davis in Havana, FL. Betty was educated in the Havana School District where she excelled in academics. She was also a cheerleader. She attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee where she attained her Bachelors degree. She later attained her Masters degree from Drake University. Betty was employed at Drake University and Grandview College as the Dean of Students. She was even known to prepare meals for those who weren’t going home to for the holidays!
Betty was very active in her community and sorority. She was the 26th Mid Western Regional Director Of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. with 48 years of continual service; Local Chapter President on numerous occasions; Graduate Advisor for Drake and Iowa State Universities; Board Member of the Richard and Linda Harrell Foster Care Foundation. She was the 2021 recipient of the Ovation Award Woman of Achievement and was the chair of the George Robinson Scholarship fund for years. She was a member of Corinthian Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA and Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Havana, FL. Betty loved to cook and was one the best. She was famous for her Mac & Cheese. She enjoyed listening to Traditional Gospel, and sang with Corinthian’s New Life Choir. Betty loved to travel pretty much anywhere her son or AKA were. Betty was known for wearing beautiful clothes that made you stop and look. She was the finest dancer, she loved spending time with her grandson; loved going to church.
Betty Jean Gause went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2022. She was welcomed home by her parents, K.C. and Essie Mae Davis, and nephew, Larry Mitchell Roziers, II.
Left here on Earth to cherish her memories are: her Devoted Son, LaMontie Gerard Gause; Beloved Grandson, Khalil Nasir Gause; Daughter in Love, Angie Costa; Brother, Charles Edward Davis, Lawrenceville, NJ; Sister, Pearl Davis-Roziers (Larry), Jacksonville, FL; Nieces: Shanda Davis, Dayana Davis, Beyanka Glasgow (Reggie) and Michaela Davis; Nephews, DeAndre Davis, and Gregory Kirkwood, II; Special Family and Friends, Linda Harrell, Helen Bothwell, Twilla Woods, Bridgett Johnson, ShaRanda Williams-Henderson, Clifford Hill, Jr., Terry Johnsons, Jr; Godson, Maxwell Harrell and a host of extended family and friends.
